Flourishing - The Sum of All Fossils
Everybody keeps mentioning Ulcerate in an attempt to describe these guys, but that's a little misleading. They do strive to create a large wall of sound, concentrate on texture, and generally sound like the world ending, but they approach those things from another angle. Flourishing embrace the bass-heavy characteristics of sludge whole-heartedly, which gives them an interesting vibe compared to most other death metal, and consequently, a lot of other metal in general.
Anyway, people should not be trying to compare these guys to others, as there is no point. Here is a band doing their own thing (and doing it fucking well, mind you), in a genre notorious for it's lack of originality. Death metal fans, rejoice! All hope is not lost.

Chruch of Misery - Houses of the Unholy
Continuing the crushing streak, here's something from good old Japan.
Riffs are like bluesy rock on steroids, no kidding. It's awesome.
Oh and every song is about a serial killer. Just in case it wasn't brutal enough or something.

Weekend Nachos - Bleed EP
Powerviolent stompers Weekend Nachos have a new EP out, and yeah... some shitty pun about making you bleed and stuff... ha ha man.
Anyways, this is one hell of a stomping, but slower and sludgier than their other material - not much pace in sight.

Coffinworm
Another great band from Profound Lore.
Coffinworm are a five-piece outfit from Indiana, who channel all things filthy into playing some blackened-sludgy-doom-awesomeness. Huge crushing riffs, dense atmosphere, vocals that lacerate the ears... yeah it's all there.
Their latest release is When All Became None, and so far it is easily one of the best this year, but their demo also brings the filth.
