Jeromes Dream
Jeromes Dream sure made a hell of a lot of noise for a three-piece. A lot of noise. So much noise that vocalist Jeff Smith didn't even need a microphone to perform live, he just screamed his lungs out until he coughed up blood, and eventually could sing no longer. His voice is definitely a love or hate kind of thing, but I personally love it and think it fits their music perfectly. Aggressive, emotional, noisy, dissonant, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Deerhunter
These guys are becoming one of my favourite bands, they are just so damn good. Really sweet sound that sits somewhere post-punk, dream pop and shoegaze... basically an awesome mix.
Shit is so good I'll even re-post Microcastle for you.
Rainwater Casette Exchange ep
Microcastle
Weird Era Continued
Fluorescent Grey ep
Cryptograms

Ulcerate
Man... I don't even know what to say. Saw these guys last night and it was just amazing. The incredibly dense sound they have in the studio was pulled off live and just sounded even more suffocating. Added to this the fact that the venue only holds about 100 people (when packed), it was a claustrophobic show to say the least. They had such a huge wall of sound that just hurt so good.
Best band I have ever seen live.
Anyways, Ulcerate is a death metal band from New Zealand of all places (*insert sheep joke here*), playing in style that sits somewhere between brutal death and tech death, though is not really either; their sound is highly intricate and crushing however it is very unorthodox compared to your average brutal death band. They use atmosphere better than anybody else in death metal (even Immolation) to create dense soundscapes and have a very strange sense of melody. There are plenty of Gorguts and Immolatoion comparisons but I feel that Ulcerate are more interesting and appealing than both. Everything is Fire is one of my favourite albums of all time. Check it.

Genius
Why isn't every other indie musician as musically intelligent as this guy?
Sufjan Stevens
Grandiose arrangements, interesting instrumentation and general awesomeness. This guy is too cool. Oh yeah and he's trying to do an album for each state of America. Going by the fact that he has so far only covered two states, this is possibly the most ridiculous goal ever, but hey - props for trying. Even if these are the only two he ever does, I don't really mind, because there is so much awesomeness contained within these two albums. Did I mention how awesome this guy is?
Awesome.

Animal Collective
So I'm guessing that seeing as you are looking at a blog, on the internet, that you would know or have heard the name Animal Collective mentioned before. Why? Well it seems it is hard to avoid the hype around these guys, and since their release last year, Merriweather Post Pavilion, basically any 'alternative' (see: mainstream) music site will have covered them a great deal. But just in case you haven't heard the news, these guys are good n stuff... and uh... if you haven't acted yet on all the hype and gotten some of their stuff of goodness, this is for you.
It's all zany, it's all weird, it's all good. Merriweather is their most accessible though.
Merriweather Post Pavilion
Strawberry Jam
Feels
I'm leaning towards Feels as my favourite right now.
(PS if you think some french indie band are better than these guys then you are sorely mistaken... just saying...)

Weirdness
The last maybe nine days or so have been quite a strange run of events. Naturally, this strangeness has something to do with girls; of course them being weird, with their cooties and all. But really it's just been a week of me over-thinking certain things, giving way too much time to things that don't really matter and generally contemplating life's great questions, when I most definitely shouldn't be. Lots of thought have been going through my head lately that worry me to think that I was thinking it. I think.
Anyways what I do think, is that from now on life will start to be pretty damn cool, as I have enrolled in my music course and will be starting soon (hi-5s all round). Add to that the fact that I will get my drivers license soon (fingers crossed anyway) and shit will be sorted.
Enough of my thoughts, here is what I have been listening to a fair bit over this period of weirdness. It has some weirdness too - along with some ugliness, which I like. It's good stuff either way and has been a nice little soundtrack of my week.
